Editing and Leadership
As a previous news editor and now a co-Editor-in-Chief, it is my fulfilled duty to edit with a passion and lead with confidence. I've done these actions with grace for the past two years as an editor and don't plan to stop there. I'm always open to feedback from my team and want to improve these skills for the better, doing the best I can.
Leadership
The first five presentations are one of the ways I show my leadership to my team. They are done every other week and focus on one topic of journalism to take a deeper dive into. It usually answers questions of how to do something, what are the different ways to approach it, and what is the best way to execute it with journalism values. The link to the presentation is below:

In addition, I show support to the entire team. This includes constantly checking in with section editors to make sure that they know what they need to do and what they need to plan out for their next steps in managing their team, being on call to step in whenever somebody is not able to perform to the best of their journalistic abilities, steering the team into what the next steps are for our newspaper, communicating when there are issues and helping to come up with solutions to this issues with my team, offering my assistance and three years of experience of journalism to both new and experienced journalists, being the second set of eyes when someone needs me to review their story or section of stories, and constantly on the lookout for new journalistic skills and events to update my team on in order to remind them of the importance of journalism and why we do what we do in our program today.
Editing
The editing process is where I double and triple-check everyone's stories whether it be for minor errors or major ones such as formatting or structure. My goal during this process is to make it as great as possible before publishing to the newspaper website as well as to teach people the concepts of journalism so that they get better and better at it with each story they write. The good aspect about editing is that it also compliments using leadership skills at the same time. In addition, a system that works to encourage edits from my team (and myself) is to include it on a "choice board" where you have to get tasks in the journalism process done in order to receive points and a resulting grade. I also have a certain mindset as I am editing, which is to be positive and optimistic while giving helpful and suggestive feedback at the same time. This is because I try to put myself in the shoes that my team are in, ones I was in when I was a staff writer three years ago and I wanted my editor-in-chief to be positive yet helpful with their suggestions.
