Design is one of the most fun aspects of the newspaper-producing process. i love how there are so many different ways you could arrange stories to make them appeal to your readers, you just have to keep trying different combinations of layouts till you find the one that works best. This aspect of journalism also allows me to tap in to my creative side and think about journalism from another angle and not just writing itself.

Last year, I was the news editor for Na Pueo, my school newspaper. As the news editor, one of the most important aspects of my job was to make sure the layout of the paper was eye-catching and tasteful, with the extra pressure of the news section being the first section in the newspaper. This process required an immense amount of time both in and out of the classroom, staying up till midnight trying different combinations, and constant editing of text boxes and photos. However, now that I am a co-editor-in-chief, my role now in the designing process for other editors is to teach them what I know from my own experience and be supportive in anything they might need assistance on during the process.

On the left and bottom are the layouts that I did as a news editor last school year.
